Help please,
I am a tone freak playing a vintage strat in a christian blues band. I play out with either a 65 pre cbs deluxe, champ, 900 jcm or 3x10 BluesLand Bluestone. I am trying to compare a Behringer 60 watt combo amp to a Tech 21 trademark 60. I live in the boonies and can find a Behringer dealer but not Tech 21. I use a sans amp from tech 21 and it is the best pedal in the world hands down. I know that is a lofty thing to say but after 20+ years of hauling amps and buying pedals you know tone when you hear it.
Has anyone had experiance with both or either of these amps?
Thank You
Keith "Carlos" Kibler

not yet. I have heard great thing abiout the Tech21 and have seen the Behringer in action in Frankfurt at the Messe. They both have a lot to say about them. Behringer doesnt have a great name in the pro audio world tho. Guitar and lo budget wise they do have a lot to say. They are cleaning up there act but is it enough ......
Anyone alse? |

Hey Guy,
Nope ! No Exp with either one. I do have a few ABehringer products and while they are not pricey, they are pretty good. If you seek true tone Get on Ebay and get an ADA MP-1 midi tube preamp for $150. I assure you, you will love it and never go back. Best thing going at low prices but very few folks have ever tried one.

I have been blessed with several vintage tube amps. Would a tube pre amp be any different than those?

I picked up an old Marshall 9001 tube pre-amp a few years ago and haven't switched it for anything else which for me is saying a lot for that unit!
I like the old marshall sound but I prefer a rack setup for a couple reasons.
When I stumbled on this little jewel and combined it with a newer Marshall EL 84 20/20 power amp: Wow! That was the old Marshall and the new Marshall sound all in one rack with all the headroom and punch without the need for midi switching.
If you can find one of these little pawn shop prizes I recommend giving it a whirl. |

Behringer stuff isn't too bad, I know their digital stuff has a slower sample rate than other digital. This equates to slightly lower quality sound. I've heard very good things about the tech 21 amps. On a personal note, I'm not too fond of anything other than tubes for live applications. When you get to stage levels the tube amps just sound better. If you're looking for compact with a wollop in a blues amp go with a cranked peavey classic 30 with 12au7 preamp tubes or a fender blues junior. Small packages but loud great blues tone! The rhythm guy in our christian blues band used a classic 30 for many years (just bought a XXX super40) and volume wise he could keep up with my 100 watt head for any stage level we've ever played at.

If the classic 30 has three 10's it is like the 59 fender bandmaster ,
if it has one 12 it is more like a Fender deluxe.
I have the later and a Blues Tone boutique copy of the former. They both do what you would want from them, especially if a tube screamer is in front of them.
You do still have to play though.
that being said, for playing out and not being in front of a very large crowd outside, I vote for the Tech 21 trademark 60, it is alalog rather than digital, doesnt break, has an xlr out to right to your board or snake, will match all the above tones and the tech 21 is the bomb,
plus it weighs only 35 lbs |

| Has anyone tried the Tech 21 rack mount preamp? I have wanted to for a while but haven't had a chance. I know they are a little pricey but if they sound good enough it will be worth it. I like thier pedals for sure:) |

| Q, I've heard that the Peavy Delta Blues is basically the same amp as the Classic 30 but with a bigger cabinet and tremolo. People I've talked to say if they had to do it again they would get the Blues. Bigger cabinet=bigger sound. I've played a classic 30 and liked it except for the tube rattle at higher volumes. scott |

Totally agree on the delta blues Scott. I was just going at it from a size standpoint. The Classic30 is already a great amp for sure as is the delta! The Classic 30 can be tweaked, with minimal time and money, into a superb blues amp. check out www.blueguitar.org for some awesome mods!
