Background-I lost my father last November to cancer. In the last 6 months he was so weak he couldn't mow his lawn. So I did it. Mowing is one of those brainless jobs where you have lots of time to write songs.
I'm mowing the lawn...not really mowing....cause my mind is going....like a drive-in movie on a Friday night in a small West Texas town.
I'm really blazing a trail....like Clark and Lewis...it will have to do us....this 2-foot path in the wilderness till we get the pavement down.
My daddy came to Texas back in 1970...The job that he was promised did not turn out to be...so he did most everything...for the money that it'l bring...he mowed a lot of lawns believe you me.
I'm cutting the grass....not really cutting...just thinking of something...like the massive impact of deforestation on the Amazon economy.
My daddy's old, don't walk too good, he hasn't got the power...Now it takes him a day to mow when it used to take an hour...though the lawn is the same size...he's somehow bigger in my eyes...I see the man he was and the man he is and the man he's trying to hide.
So I mow his lawn...cause time is precious...I want Christ to catch us...listening to the Wildwood flower or a sad old bluegrass song. |

Its hard losing a loved one to cancer, or even a friend for that matter like i did. Got another friend that has it now too!! dam that disease.
My prayers are with you dude!
I was wondering what sort of style of song it was?? like soft rock, pop, country or what?
I didnt know wether you wanted someone to tell you what they thought of your lyrics, but i thought they were good anyways. Theres some intereting lines (some real prety ones too) you have in there and a different approach which gets our attention.
Yeh if you could tell me what style and stuff, id love to talk to you more about it if you want
God Bless. |

Shaggy...here in Texas it's called Alternate country or Hard country or Country rock. Texas is such a melting pot of music styles. Blues, country, folk, rock, pop, jazz, tejano etc. can all be heard in my town. I play it on acoustic guitar like a fast country/bluegrass song, but with the band we rock it out a little more.
Regarding the subject matter-it was such an emotional subject that I had to sneak up on it by talking about yardwork in order to get to the love and loss of my dad. His favorite song was the Wildwood Flower by the Carter Family. Here in America the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers were the first recording "stars" of what we consider country music.
Thanks for the kind words, brother. Are you still going to buy that 52RI Telecaster? Be God's-scott |

Sorry about your father, losing any loved one for any reason is heartbreaking.
Alt. Country? Jason Boland or Cross Canadian Ragweed....that's "Red Dirt" country music, originated here in Stillwater such as those two did (and Garth Brooks). |

| Jeff...I don't know who Jason B. is but CCR play here in Texas all the time. People tell me they even do Skynyrd in their sets. Gotta like that! Yeah, OK has a lot of good music. Be Gods-scott |
