Barry, did you dig up Brian's post from 6 months ago just to argue with something? That wasn't even the flavor of the thread (trib theology), the thread is based on Hebrews 6 and not Matthew 24. You have nothing to add that might build upon what we respectfully discussed and even disagreed about, but remained (I believe) in a manner that brings glory to God?
I find your post to be divisive, in a spirit that tears down what we try to build. This is not the first post of yours I noticed this... Your knee-jerk reaction to the Left Behind thread left me feeling the same way, instant contention rather than loving suggestion. In fact I think I'll go read the rest of your posts.
Your point of view is welcome and your opinions are ok whether or not I agree with them, but not if they are done in a spirit that would try and tear down what God has built here. This is part of God's house not mine, but He did appoint me for the time being to watch over this little corner.
Please read my reply to the Left Behind thread. If you are so opposed to the view of a pre-trib rapture maybe this is not the place for you, I am sure there are plenty of forums that believe in kind. Either view is welcome here and long as it is expressed in a friendly manner that is thoughtful toward others. Perhaps you could simply express that it is what you believe rather than the tone that assails the other member and tells he/she how wrong they are.
The common bond on this forum is not our differences on doctrinal issues, rather it is that we love Jesus Christ and love playing the guitar. |

I thought in the thread we where able to point out two views that have been disagreed upon for a very long time, from a Biblical point of view on both sides. It is not a point about how salvation is given, we agree on that. Jesus is the way the truth and the light. No one comes to the Father but though Him. It was about loosing our salvation. A point none of us wants to reach anyway. I think if the whole thread is read, it will show that Christians can disagree and remain in fellowship with one another about many issues. And it does not have to revert to name calling and no one has to die.
I believe the rapture is another of these topics. I can point to why I believe the Bible tells me it is going to happen. But I have a very close Christian friend that can not. He have discussed this before, I don't think it effects our salvation either way. We even attend the same Church. But just because you don't see one verse that spells it out, does not mean it's not Bible truth. Find the word trinity in the Bible?
It is best to enter such debaits from the stand point of showing why you believe the way you do. Always based on what the Bible has to say, not an "I think" stand point. And not from the stand point of "converting" another. The facts will stand for themself. |

Getting back to the subject: I believe that if the only step I take toward Christianity and salvation is the basic acceptance of Christ as my savior and the confession of my sins, I am still doomed to eternal damnatiion. Unless I thirst for knowlege of scripture and have the reinforcing of my faith from fellow believers, I will weaken and abandon my faith eventually. I believe that if we run with dogs we will act like dogs. A strong Christian is nourished by daily scripture reading and by prayer. Did you ever have a best friend as a kid that you drifted apart from and lost contact with completely over the years? Our relationship with God works the same way.
New Christians need to seek knowlege and eventually be weaned off the milk of the basic beliefs and start taking in the solid food of the rest of the scriptures. I personaly feel that when I am not moving forward, I am sliding backward. Just how far back that I want to slide is up to me. I need to renew my faith with prayer and ask for the Holy Spirit to enter me daily. If I dont, I am quite sure that I would eventually go back to what I was before I was saved.
