Here's one for ya. I noticed a couple of weeks ago the PA in the church wasn't quite right. Seemed like the accompanyment tape/cd is coming through the mains, but the vocals are on monitor only.

We had D-now this past weekend and my son tried to help with the sound system. He tells me he is really afraid something got fried. He said the band was cranking everything up way to high and he heard something crackle "like bacon cooking".

Sun we had nothing coming out the mains, we used the monitors by pointing them to the congregation.

As best I can explain, we have a mixer board in back of the auditorium with 2 amplifiers and EQs wired somewhere in the system. One seems to be for the mains and the other for monitors (would that be right?). The amp for the mains shows on but no indication that anythings coming out.

We're gonna work on it Thurs night.

Any ideas?

Interseting problem. You say the music comes out of the speakers and the vocals out of the monitors. That problably means that your monitors are hooked up to one of the two channels of your amp ? Biggest couse of that is cables. Might be out of phase ? Can you centre your pan on your mixer ? That should help.

Can you check if anything is going IN the amp? Try connecting the cable that entres the amp to a keyboard amp or so. If you have signal there, try hooking up the monitors to the main amps amplifier Does that do anything ?

The crackle does sound like a fried mid-high driver.... Big problem if you want to do anything at all.

The EQ should be right. You can simply check that by turning on off whil you play a cd or so. You should be able to hear the sound go of or change. Try bypassing the Eq, might be a problem there altho I doubt that.

What mixer do you have? What amps ? What kind of speakers ? Monitors ?

As best I can tell, the monitors have thier own amp as does the mains.

Using the Headphones at the board, we have sound coming from there. It should go from there to them amp where we have power, but no indication of anything going out. That's why I think it's out. But we haven't hooked up directly to or out of it yet.

I don't have the brands off the top of my head, but I'm sure I'll be a little more familiar come Thurs night. I really fear it is gonna take a while to figure it out.

By the way, I've also learned that the speaker in the nursery quit working a couple of weeks ago. Again, I think this shows that there ain't nothing coming out the main amp.
Thanks for the help.

Well, let me know what happens thursday night. I wish I was there or you were here o I could see the stuff and test it myself...

How do you connect a second speaker to the main amp ? That is a funny way indeed. O well, a good repairs man will lend you a spair amp while he repairs yours. Or at least rent you one for a small price...

We found only one of the amps giving any output. I wasn't there, they started without me knowing my mechanical prowness. We've got a temp fix right now, using one amp but we can't push it very much at all. We'll dig into the budget and fix or replace what we got and I hope to have someone with knowledge help us get it rigged back up so that we get it right.

I may post more info for ya later Bates...

Good luck on that. If you are going for a new amp check out QSC, Peavey or Dynacord . All affordable amps for a reasonable price. Or pick up a pledge in the church and get ...... O well. I know how it is. We are always short on cash to.... Shocked
