Hey! I wasn't aware of this part of the forums! But now that I've found it, believe me, I'll utilize it!
Update: We financed a recording system. As a band, we bought a Roland VS 840 Digital Recording Studio off of ebay. It only came out to be about $180 and it came with all the manuals, 10 ZIP discs and was hardly used. Pretty good deal, we thought. So it should be here in a few days.

Now, for the question: We are looking into geting at least two mics along with a PA system of some sort that will come later on. For now, all we would need is the mics because we're mostly only playing at churches which have their own speakers and PA's. So, yeah... What is a good mic manufacturer? I know that Shure is probably one of the best, but we're not looking to spend $130 per mic! So I went to ebay to see what I could find and this is what I came up with:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41468&item=3752700475&rd=1

Seems like a good deal, but since none of us knows a thing about mics, we can't know for sure. If you could respond with any knowledgable info on mics that you may have, that would be great! Thanks guys for all your help!

- Tim

P.S. - We finally came up with a name for our band! It's "One Sacrifice
" and taken from Hebrews 10:12, 14. Laughing

It seems like a decent deal. But you wouldn't necessarily believe that it is just as good as a Shure just because the dealer said so (I'm getting cynical in my old age). I'd still personally go for a Shure though. I'd be a little suspicious that those other ones can be just as good for the same price and get 4 of them. Maybe look at getting cheaper Shures. My PG48 does a decent job. It's only cheap (paid $100 AUD, so you'd get it for less), but it does the job well.

By the way, read the name of the thread. I think it needs editing.

I was thinking you were looking for christian mics ! LOL. I am afraid these are not the SM58 mics I think they are trying to sell. I think these are copy's of the original ons. 1st production models of these chinese/taiwan copy were actually good. Then they started selling more and lost the edge.

What do you need the mics for? Vocals? I would stick to the well known SM58 (shure) You cant go wrong there. If you like try a Audix OM3. A lot af gospel acts use Audix and they are spuer mics. A lot of them on Ebay to!

You can get a SM57 for vocals and use it ans a guitaramp mic if needed. The 57 is wel know for its lovely fat sound when pushed a bit!

Try to get the best you can. The audio signal starts at the MIC you use. If you mess that up it is extremly hard to get it back to a pro level! Maybee you can get some mics to test at the local store or audio rental company! Speaking of them, they might have some very good 2nd hand mics that have lost some paint.

We will be using the mics for our vocals, yes, but it would be nice to get a few and use some for micing the amps when it is necessary. Both myself and my other guitarist are singing and we both have 30 watt amps. So, although our amps can really pump it out in a small setting, it may be necessary to mic them in a bigger one.
Also, now that I guess I've got my answer on the mics (I'll begin searching the web for the best prices), do any of you have any experience with PA's? We're looking into a $250 Kustom (or something like that...) or one of those new Fenders - can't remember the name off the top of my head...
Thanks for your advice and help, guys!

- Tim

The will do nicely in a small setting. Nothing to use outside or mice your drumkit or amps on tho! Only for vocals and maybee a acc. guitar! Do you get Heuges and Kettner over there? They have some nice systems that can be upgraded with subs when needed! You could also go and look for a pakage deal. You should be able to get the speakrs, mics, cables and stands for a decent price!

If you want a Fender Passport, go with the "250" version.
A former pastor we had used one for Worship with a full band. It was adequate for vocals. The band was on its own, the drums weren't mic'd.

I thought it was a good lil' unit, for the price. We added some cheap Peavey monitor speakers (used one channel to drive them, but if you added a monitor amp to drive monitor speakers, you'd have more power for out front).
The mics that came with weren't too bad, but a Shure SM-58 we used for the main vocalist was of course a bit better sounding and clearer.
