|
|
Hey guys! I was just wondering if anyone here has heard of the infamous band, Switchfoot. I've been getting into their music very much. They are such good artists and an amazing band. But then I heard something that I'm not so sure I agree with. They recently dropped their Christian label and are now playing under a secular label! Now their music that was considered Christian before is all over the secular radio and television! Wow! Here are my thoughts...
Good thoughts:
1.) Because they were a "Christian" band and are now a "Secular" band, their "christian" music is now all over the secular world! What a testimony!
2.) I'm not sure if they confess their faith often, but what an amazing opportunity to spread the gospel on tour as a "Secular" band!
Bad thoughts:
1.) They are now all over MTV, which is not the most "Christian" television channel. By being part of that, are they not agreeing with what it represents?
2.) They are making so much more $$$ now that they are under a secular label! Is this not a potential bad testimony? They are Christians, yet they aren't in it for God's glory so much as for the dollars. That may not be the case, but it sure seems to be from the listeners point of view.
Feel free to voice your opinions on this issue. I'd love to hear from you guys, because I really am rather confused. I'm not too sure what to think!
Thanks in advance,
- Tim |

I don't see anything wrong with being on MTV. Things can change, you just have the guts to step up and do it.

None of us know if they keep the money or donate most of it. That's their profession though, and I hope they make all the money they can. They're only going to be big for 5 or 6 years at best, make your retirement funds now. Preachers get paid, why can't a Christian band? |

| I think you are right Brother Jeff. However I seem to remember a verse in the New Testiment-something like to whom much is given, much is expected. But God will judge. Be His-scott |

Hey, Jeff, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. It's not that I disagree with what they did - I'm just unsure whether I would do the same with my band. On one hand, I think that they have an amazing opportunity now and that it is a really good thing. But on the other hand, I'm not sure if Jesus would have done that had He been in a band. Haha! Kind of funny way to look at it, I suppose, but I really just wanted all of your input. Thanks for such quick replies guys.

| I wonder why they changed their label. Did they get a better payment offer from another label, so they took it? I don't see any problem with changing your label. I'd be more worried if they changed their religion. I wouldn't worry about it unless the music's message changes. But that's just me. |

PunkStar, it hasn't seemed like they've changed their message... That's why I'm starting to think that they have a really cool opportunity! Supposedly it's really hard for a band to transfer from Christian to Secular label and they finally have. Now their Christian songs are all over the Secular radio station and TV!!! Pretty cool! My personal favorite of their songs is "Meant To Live". Then perhaps "Dare You To Move". There's another song that they do that I really like, but the title evades me... Oh well...it'll come later on.
Thanks for your input, guys!

Sorry CWC, I reread my post, it was a little snappy. Didn't intend for it to be that way.
Some bands have to switch to larger record companies just so they can manufacture the amount of CD's. It's usually from indie labels to bigger labels. |

On the topic of good Christian rockers, has anyone ever experienced Kutless? Their website is given below and they have some very good songs and even music videos on the site. Check it out...

P.S. - Probably their two best videos (and songs) are "Run" and "Sea of Faces". Give it a whirl - they're worth your time. |

| I have to agree with CWC that I don't think Switchfoot should have switched. |
