Just scored a SJ-12T "Superjet" Ampeg reissue for $271 used.
Now I'm GASSIN' for the 2 X 12 version!
I've had a couple of these Ampeg reissues before, and I like them quite a bit.
They don't have quite the sparkle and bounce of a good Fender amp, but they're a LOT cheaper!
St Louis Music makes them (the Crate people) now. They're a bit harder to find in California (Crates are everywhere!), but they're all tube.
I think Ampeg isn't pushing these as much as their SVT Bass amps, which have a proven reputation and big name in Rock, but I kinda like this 1 X 12 combo for where I'm at now: one channel; kinda Bluesy breakup. |

What kind of preamp, power and rectifier tubes does she use? And what speaker? I love upgrading tube amps and these two things can make quite a difference. Steve, the older Ampegs on See-bay are quite reasonable too.
For the record my early silverface DR is the best all-around amp I've ever played. Bought it for $400 at GC 10 years ago. Perfect size and sound for me. I think if you save your money and buy one of these you would be very happy. There, i've exceeded my advice quotient Be God's-scott |
