Been reading this book called "Revolution Within" by D. Edwards that seems really good at emphasizing Biblical truths. I mean it is stuff we have all read a thousand times yet shows us how important selected verses are. Mr. Edwards divides our human nature into 2 parts: animal and diabolical-the animal being outward sins such as adultry, drunkeness, violence etc while the inward sins are more like lust, covetness, bearing false witness. To illustrate he uses the story of the Prodigal with each son representing one of these two. His point is that the eldest son was JUST AS MUCH a sinner by his thoughts (jealousy, being judgemental...) as was the younger son's animal behavior.
The second point he makes is that ALL flesh is riddled through and through with sin. But God is not trying to beat us down with the Law. Rather He is trying to increase our dependence on Him. Sometimes i imagine faith as being an invisible (to most!) white-hot beam from my heart to the heavens. The stronger my faith is depends upon my constant awareness of my brokeness and my need for my Lord. Some days my beam is much brighter than others! It's Sunday morning here in Texas...Be God's everyone and pray for the unfortunate here in Florida and overseas in Iraq. May our hearts be broken for others so that we are moved to love them as He loves us. And may he then put feet to our faith so that our actions reflect our love. scott |

Amen!
Funny how I used to think of that verse that says: "To the natural man, things of the spirit are senseless."
I used to think: how true. I know guys like that!
THEN I realised I also had a "natural man" living within! My old nature! |

Bro Steve...this guy goes on to say that our "human" nature, the one composed of the animal and diabolical, coexists with our God-given one. Reminds me of a verse from the Apostile Paul-something like we are not tempted beyond what God has provided us an escape for...something like that. Be God's-scott |

Oh yes.
Inside my head there's an old serpent sleeping.
Every now and then he stirs, and opens up one eye and looks around a bit, to see if I'm on guard. |

Good to know I'm not the only one with those voices in my head.
Actually, this fits kinda well with the latest Sermon In A Second I posted up recently. Thanks Sharring. |

The trick is to tell them to shut up. If you yell, it's more effective. |
