Welcome to the second Sermon-In-A-Second. The articles where PunkStar preaches to you about living a good Christian life.

Just recently, the Friday at school fell on the 13th day of the month. Ahh, Friday the 13th. A day known to western superstition as a day of bad luck. When you see it on the calender, you just know it's an omen of bad things to come. So when I noticed it at school, I wondered if anything bad would happen. Now I'm not particularly given to superstitions, but you have to admit the thought does cross your mind every once in a while. So I waited out the week to see what would happen on that day.

Now, just some background information. Here in Australia, school kids wear uniforms to school. I just evens out the balance between social groups. By everyone wearing the same thing, the cool kids can't pick on the uncool kids on the basis of clothing. We all hate uniforms, but at least it means you don't have to decide what to wear in the morning. Now, back to our story.

As I got to school that day, I realized I'd forgotten something. It was a casual wear day at school. That day the school was doing a fundraiser for charity. You pay $2 and you can wear whatever you like to school. I'd completely forgotten about it and shown up to school in school uniform. As I was walking to my locker, I realized it was the first attack of Friday the 13th. Nobody bothered me about it though. Although I always had the excuse that I couldn't afford it because I'm still in too much debt from my new guitar. A completely plausible excuse that anyone who knows me would believe. But nobody gave me any trouble. Lucky me.

The next attack of Friday the 13th came during my first math class. Guess what I forgot to bring to class. My calculator. The calculator (one of those new-fangled grahpics calculators) is advised to bring to maths classes. So that was really annoying. But I managed to get through the class without needing it. At the moment we are just doing work on interpreting graphs and didn't have to draw them. Lucky me.

Next I was late for my other math class. The harder one. I'd remembered to get my calculator for this one Laughing. Reason I was late was because I had to get a permission form for my Psychology class's excursion on Tuesday. So I had to wait around for that to happen. The reason why being late for this maths class is because that maths teacher isn't exactly known as the nicest guy in the school. Seems reasonable enough though. Amazingly, I explained why I was late and I managed to get away with all my body parts intact. He didn't even yell. Either he was drugged up good or he'd just finished makes jokes about Barry (who is known for not thinking things out before doing them). Don't worry, he isn't mean when making those jokes. Barry even gets a laugh out of them, it's all good. Either way, I didn't get in trouble for being late. Lucky me.

Those were the attacks Friday the 13th threw at me, which I somehow managaed to dodge all of them. It was a bit of an unlucky day. But you know what, it could have been a whole lot worse. People could have been really mean that I forgot casual day, or we could have moved onto trigonometry in my first math class, or maybe Mr. Berryman (the second math teacher) could have chopped me up into tiny pieces and had kid casserole for dinner that night. But none of that did happen. I was actually pretty lucky. But you know what? As unlucky as that day would have been even if that stuff did happen, it would still be pretty lucky. Because even if I'd died and become stew, there are people who have to live a much worse life than I have to. Some people don't even have guitars. Yet my life has been very lucky. I've been born into a safe country that doesn't natural disaters or even many natural enemies. I have access to clean water, good food, medical help. I have religious freedom, I don't even really get critized for my religious beliefs. And I can hang out with a bunch of complete strangers on the internet and be totally safe (I love you guys Smile). There are people who live in third-world countries who don't have these essentials for life (the guitars I mean). They are the really unlucky ones.

Now I know this reads like one of those "be thankful for what you've got" stories, but it's true. We have life really good, and we should just take a moment to thank the Lord for giving us the opportunity to know him and serve him in the great places and situations we live in. Becuase there is always someone who is worse off then us. And if you can find someone who is luckier than a Christian, I'll give that lucky man a deck of playing cards. I'd give them something more expensive, but I'm still paying off my new guitar. Laughing

Yes, everything inside the Lord's will keeps getting better and better.
And everything in The World that is apart from Christ keeps getting worse and worse.
What a mighty God we serve, who guides our steps.
And NOTHING can pluck us from the palm of His hand!
