Friday night (7-16-04), Beloved Admin had a gig with Freddy Fender in Topeka, Kansas, about an hour west of my home in Kansas City. Unfortunately, his flight schedule didn't leave but about an hour's spare time before and after the show. I had originally wanted to get to bring him by the house so he could play my B-3. But, instead, I drove to Topeka and met him about 7PM, shook his tentacle, we went for coffee, talked about music, musicians, forums, touring and all the normal stuff, 'n stuff. I know this will probably damage his rep, but Conrad was most pleasant and gracious. He had arranged permission from Freddy and the guys in the band for me to ride from the hotel to the gig in the limo with them, we ate dinner together in the green room, and I stayed backstage for the show, then got the limo ride back to the hotel. Not only did I get to ride with Freddy, Augie Meyers (one of the original Texas Tornadoes and of his own band, The White Boys) was there with the band. What a treat! Very Happy

While at the show, I couldn't help but notice that Conrad is a MONSTER keyboard player. Great chops! Cool

After the show, we talked for another hour, and I left so he could at least get in a nap before they left at 5:30AM for the KC airport for the return flight and Saturday night's show in Aneheim. I had a great time, if any of you ever get the chance to see and meet Conrad, I recommend it highly. And CM, if you ever get back this way and have the time, you have an open invitation to come by the house and play my B-3, I'd like to hear it played the way it should be played! Wink

Oooh, NICE B3!... And tell me about the Super Connie! My Dad worked for Pacific NW Airlines and they flew Connies and Super Connies. He'd hook my brothers and I and a friend up in the *One Eyed Bishop* with headsets and intercoms while he'd shoot the breeze and pick up his paycheck on an occasional Saturday, circa 1960.

With AC's permission (and the other moderators), www.airlinehistorymuseum.com . We have one of 3 legally certified to fly Connies left flying in the world. It's the only one that's never been a military plane, and the only one with a complete passenger cabin. I am a member of this organization, and as a result get to fly on it to airshows. Look for it in Martin Scorcese's movie "the Aviator - the Howard Hughes Story", in December. The Connie will be in Oshkosh later this month, and In St. Louis over Labor Day weekend, I'll be on the St. Louis trip. If you can make it there, come by and introduce yourself, I'll be the white bearded guy collecting money at the entrance steps to the airplane! Wink

Herb, that is too cool! Thanks for that story. My father was in the Air Force so I grew up going to airshows and the like. Of course it was mostly military aircraft, but it was great lying on the boomers pad in a KC-135 and imagining you were refueling a B-52. I remember when the Thunderbirds flew F-100's too.
