| Just another bit of useless amp trivia I'm afraid. I bought this cool old Fender Princeton 2 years ago, 6G2 circut from 1964, no reverb, 10" speaker cause it "blew away" a new Fender Pro Junior. Since then I have been trying new speakers in it to get the best sound. After experimenting with various 12" speakers in a new baffle I went back to the original baffle and bought a Reverend Alltone 10" speaker for $40. What a great sound-plenty of bass but with nice chime-like treble and it really breaks up smoothly for leads. This is my favorite amp now for rock/pop/blues styles. It has that really great fat tube clean sound with a cool tremolo and the overdrive is there with a turn of the guitar's volume knob. Oh yeah, I switched rectifier tubes-stepped up to a 5R4 (had a 5Y3) which increased the voltage to the tubes and rebiased. This gave me 3 more notches on the volume knob. I have no problem keeping up with the rhythm guitars Marshall JTM30. Plus it's small and lightweight and simple. Life is good-thank you Lord. scott |
