I guess I qualify to visit the Gibson board you moderate at now.
Gotta link?
Tks!

You don't have to own one to qualify! Just like 'em! With AC's permission, www.gibsontalk.com . Come and join us anytime, you're always welcome. As a matter of fact, it definitely wouldn't hurt to have a few more Christians over there. I also moderate Gretschtalk and Carvintalk for anyone who is interested. All these are owned by the same wonderful folks that bring you this forum. Thanks for allowing the "plug"! Wink

Hey now!

Last I heard, Hartley Peavey was at least a Christian. I'm not sure, but I think so.
Lost his wife to cancer last year or two.

Out here in commiefornia, Peaveys are cheap. Nobody seems to give them a fair chance.

I've had good Peavey stuff (and bad).
Ever notice how a "Scorpion" speaker sounds a lot like an old JBL at low volumes? Sure they sound nasty when pushed, but that's an acquired taste I guess.
A lot of Southern Rock guys use 'em.

'Course, pursuant to THIS board, Peavey has never captured much of the Jazz equipment market!
Wink

But Peavey does cater to church sound systems pretty well.

I'm a huge Peavey nut. I own a Wolfgang Std., a TransTube 212 EFX amp and a Stereo Chorus 400 amp!

In my opinion, you can't beat them for the money.

Ha Ha!
Welp, once I learned Jazz "proper" chords I found them physically easier to form than your usual bar chords!
A Dominant7 with the root on the sixth string is much easier than that stretched out pinky on-and-off Johnny B Goode chording.

I think Ted Greene uses those "big toe" chords, from what I've seen of his books. Either that or he's using a 20.5" scale Rickenbacker 325!!!

They sacred me off of his stuff. Pages and pages of those!

I'm much lazier than that!
Wink

FWIW, guys like Johnny Smith used lots of those stretch voicings, which is why they sounded so good.

I'm not a real Jazzer. I can sound sorta jazzy, but no smokin' be-bopper, here. I'm just a Blues guy with big strings on my rig. Embarassed

Well thanks,
But in my mind I can hear those nice Jazz lines, but my fingers don't wanna improvise too far from their comfort zones.
I think I should sound better than I do!

I still plug away at Jazz (after 40 years of guitarin'), but any kid that knows "rhythm changes" makes me look like a 1st semester improv lab flunky.

Love that sound, though. I'll keep at it, but I need another word to describe my style because Jazz implies a certain command of the basics, and my knowledge certainly is not comprehensive.

So lessee, I've got three "jazz" licks (times 12 keys, so that's 36 right?) that sound slightly jazzier than my stock SIX Blues licks that have served me for the last thirty years.
I'm a regular maestro!

That's still a lot more licks than a lot of "pro" rockers I've heard! Wink

It was a bit on the cynical side, wasn't it. Part of what I'm trying to leave behind, but the point was about (lack of) talent level of certain famous artists, not their personal habits, although there was a lot of that I also found wanting. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Of course I would not "get" a joke like that so wouldn't be offended!
Wink

Ha ha.
I know what you mean though.
There's plenty of really excellent guitarist/musicians around who get no recognition nor much money to speak of, while posers with guitars seem to get the whole world (but it comes at a price, I think Jesus observed).

But from my BC days I know you can lose your soul and NOT gain the whole world!
