I can't believe I haven't done a tutorial on this yet. I guess I'll have to do one up. But I'll give you a short version.

Basically, it works like this. I'm going to assume you mean guitar tabulature. Basically, there are six lines. Each line represents one string. They are usually labeled as to which string is which. The numbers mean which fret to play. 0 means play the string open. 1 means first fret, 2 means second fret. And so on. There are a couple of other symbols as well. But I'll go over them in the tutorial when I get it done.

So here is an example.

e-------------
B-------------
G-------------
D-------------
A-----0--2--3
E--3----------

This tab means play the 3 fret on the bass E string. Then the A string open, then the second fret on the A string. Then the third fret on the A string. You read it from the leftmost number to the rightmost number.

Only problem with tab is that it doesn't say how long to hold a note.

That's a short version of the upcoming tutorial which I'll write and then post up in the tutorials section on the site. That should be enough to get you started anyway.
