Yep, I play bass too. I've only been playing it since around Christmas last year, but I like bass.
I'm working on getting my website up. When that's done, I'll send a picture for everyone. |

| I play bass, poorly. I mean I can play along but I am certainly nowhere near what I consider to be a "bass player" if you know what I mean. I can hold my own in a praise and worship setting but I can't play the fast complicated stuff at all. |

It took me a few years of grudgingly playing bass in a band as the guitar spots were taken. But after a couple years something just clicked and I fell in love with the instrument and really started advancing in chops and technique. It helped alot to hang around a "Real" bass player and glean from his chops and style as he was an amazing player.
I do not regret being stuck with bass as it has become my other main instrument. It sure helps as a songwriter to start with a good bass line instead of guitar from time to time, gives you a fresh perspective . |

I took up bass while at Berklee College of Music in Boston, 20 years ago. While guitar and composition were my majors, I kept getting calls for bass guitar work in studios, etc., so I said, "sure, I'll do it"! Had to pay the bills, you know?
The great thing about that is, being a composer, musician, I hear the bass line in my head, prior to recording it, so I can compose the guitar and bass tracks for a very solid foundation. Also, I studied drums for 8 years, prior to picking up guitar. So I do alot of the drums and percussion on my recordings,as well.
I love all rhythm section instruments, and get a chance to play them all from time to time. So far in church I have;
1) Played guitar- I'm the lead guitarist in my church of 5000+
2) Bass
3) Drums
4) Congas
5) Keyboards
6) Sang ( don't know why they let me do that!)
7) Blues harp
I kind of have a "whatever it takes" attitude when it comes to serving.
Guitar is my main instrument, but my basses are;
Fender Precision
ESP
Yamaha ( bought for my kid, but I inherited it back)
That's all I know, and then some. |

I've been on the verge of buying a 5 string fender J-bass for a while now...my friend bought a 6 string Rosco from Larry Morgan in Dallas, so he said he'd sell me his old bass. It's his first bass, so he's reluctant to sell and I don't want to just buy away his first bass because I don't want to rip off my best friend. So right now my bass aspirations are on hold. |

I have doubled on bass a few times, but I don't consider that my bass concept is very together. OK in a pinch is all.
I seem to prefer a maple neck P-bass mostly, but have no bass at all presently. I've used others, but like the simplicity of Fender Precision model basses.
Most groups would be better off having somebody kicking a big cardboard box in the background for bottom, than having me on bass. |

| I love playing bass-nothing fancy but on a good day I'm in the pocket with the drummer and then we start adding little accents-all hail the mighty groove. I'm using a cheap Applause electric acoustic fretless with a SWR strawberry blonde-sorta low budget and volume-but hey...lotsa fun. Praise God for the bass. scott |

I'm a chapman stick player so I'm somewhere in between a bass and a guitar. I've been playing guitar since 85' and picked up the Stanley Jordan tap style in the mid-90s. 3 and a half years ago I bought a chapman stick and can't put it down.
A quick story behind what got me into the stick. I saw a guitar exhibit at the MFA in Boston called "dangerous curves". They had some of the first guitars made from the 1400s with instruments up to hendrixs, prince, etc. There were demos of the guitars and headphones that you can listen to that guitars sound. They also had on desplay a chapman stick and I was astonished when I heard it, I clearly heard a bass, rhythm and lead guitar. From that point I decided I had to have one! I got a huge deal on one from ebay that went for half what they usually sell for. After I got it, I tried to play it but it's very confusing with out a teacher, I could barely figure out how to tune it. After a year and a half of not playing it much I decided to offer it up to the Lord. So Oct 02' I anointed it with oil and vowed to only play music that blesses the Lord. I also asked God to teach me how to play this crazy thing and be my personal instructor. Since that time I can't put it down. I'm able to write in ways I never thought possible. I'm not saying I'm good at it because there are stick players that are light years ahead of me but I think I've made some progress learning.
A little over a year ago a buddy from church and I started a jazz/funk band with guitar, stick, drums and sax. The sax player backed out because of school and the drummer moved to Maine so we need some new members. In the meantime we have been jammin at some open mics in the area. Here are some pics: http://www.panther4x4.com/stick/
My stick is a 10 string version from 86 or so and I play the bass side through an SWR Redhead and the melody side though a Peavey stereo chorus. I hope to get a new 12 string with midi if I can be more active with the instrument. In just started playing guitar at my church and hope to play stick on Wed nite services.
Anyway, that's my intro, thanks for listening.....
