I owned a "Stephens" 25W with a built-in tuner, nice little amp shouldn't have sold it. ......but it allowed me to buy a 40W Traynor. |

I have a Peavey Stereo Chorus 212 that I leave at my church so I don't have to haul an amp. It gets reasonable tone, but nothing to brag about. But it serves its purpose and I don't have to pack it back and forth!
For gigs I use a Line 6 Flextone II Plus, which I'm very happy with. |

I play through a peavey triple XXX modified to G rated with a custom cut peice of diamond plate on it. Loaded with Groove tube E34Ls and NOS mullard preamp tubes. I have a 4x12 cabinet that I use for large venues and a 1x12 for small shows. Minimal effects running into the beast... a morely bad horsie wah, boss chorus and tu-2 tuner, and an aria digital delay. The rest is all amp!

| I just picked up an Acoustasonic 30 DSP. I would like to give the low down on what it has to offer, but im pretty much amp illiterate. I just thought it sounded good and it had some effects that will keep me busy for a while. |

Since I'm new here I'm interested in what kind of amp system everyone is using. I use a rack ADA All tube midi system with a 4-12 cab. How about you guys? Brag on your amps a bit.

Pick one, they're all great:

So Herb. What do you think of old Fender tube amps?
Think they're any good?
envy envy, covet covet.
edit: Ooooh, I missed that sixties SS!
Can't have enough of those around in pristine condition. |

| The only one that doesn't have JBL D series in it is the '65 Twin. I'm gonna leave the bluebacks in it. |

I've always loved JBL's, especially in Fenders.
Some guys say those aluminum dust covers make "icepick-in-the-ear" highs.
I've never agreed with that.
I love D's, and K's.
Music Man amps are good with JBL's too, IMHO. |

| Try some E's, they're my #2 choice. Much better than K's. But nothing beats a D model! |

Wow.
Never woulda guessed. Thought the K's sounded a lot like D's to my ears, but more transient response because of the double fold at the outside edge where the paper is glued to the basket's rim.
Never tried an "E."
Thought they were newer: after JBL's "prime."
Are they the ones with the big molded "Continental kit" looking magnet cover that sorta blends/streamlines the components together when viewing from the back?
Still AlNiCo magnet; cast aluminum frame; and 2" voice coil?
Are they still being produced?
Where do you get them?
Thanks advancedly.
Around here, D120/130's go for $150 reconed! |

| Yes, they have the wide, flat magnets, and are quite heavy. The D's were the last of the alnico magnets, but the E's still have the cast aluminum frame and 2" voice coil. They made up for the lost tone response that ceramic magnets are famous for with the extreme size and shape of the E's magnet. Very, very close, I have 4 E110's in my big sound system to handle the high mids. |
