I don't know just where to post this but...
It looks like in November I will be attending a "Praise Guitar Workshop" put on by John Standefer. Has anyone ever heard of John before? I have read nothing but good things about him, I guess he is a National Fingerstyle Champ. Maybe someone has been to one of the workshops? I don't know how long he has been putting these on, but he seems to have them all over the place. Somewhere I read he recommends Prayer before each practice! Lord knows I need it.
Kind of reminds me of my mother-in-laws bumber sticker:
As long as there are tests, there will always be Prayer in school. |

Went to John's Praise Guitar workshop this weekend. Friday night then all day Saturday. I had never heard of John before this, but I don't know why. He has played with alot of people, but has given lessons to alot more! He is bar none, the best player I have ever seen. He can play in just about every style I have ever heard of. But the the real important part is that he can teach it! I wish we could have spent a week with him. But you get what you get. He gives you a book and a CD, so that you can practice what he has shown you when you get home. I don't read music, and he was able to teach us alot about how music "works". I now understand much more about how to change the scale something is played in. And I have a much better understanding of where to place a capo.
If you get a chance to go, take it! It does not matter how advanced you think you are, he can help. There where several players much more advanced than I will be five years from now. And they thought just as much of the class as I did. I paid 15 days in advance and it cost me $79! He hopes to come back in our area next year sometime, we might even host him at our Church. I plan to go again.
By the way, he does give you alot of ideas on how to conduct your Praise and Worship Service. And we started the class with prayer!
BTW, I'm not making a dime on this, I 'm just a guy that was lucky enough to find a good thing. He has a web site; praiseguitar.com. He has the locations of his upcoming workshops listed there, and the contacts you would need. That's how I found out about it. |
