Agreed! Early Aerosmith is outstanding stuff. I didn't even know what Blues was when I was listening to them. But they taught me. Draw the Line was the 2nd album I owned. I hadn't heard anything from it, but an Bro-in-law had Get Your Wings and I just sat entranced listening to it, reading the liner notes, staring at the cover. I went out and bought the first Aerosmith album I could find. But the real defining moment, when the lightbulb went on, was when I got Live Bootleg. I got to side 4 (remember albums?) and heard Mother Popcorn and Aint Got You and I was floored! It sounded ugly, in a beautiful way. Nothing fancy, no glitter and explosions, just passionate music. I was hooked. That taught me that it's all about the music and how it stirs the insides.

I learned to play by putting on albums like Rocks and trying to find the licks on my accoustic guitar. I won backstage passes in '97 and when I met Joe Perry I told him he was my first guitar teacher! He looked confused , like he was supposed to remember me, so I had to explain. I took my cover for Bootleg for the autographs.

Not surprisingly, my playing has always tended back toward those roots.

That's too cool!

If you think about it, it's hard to imagine a band that is more successful than Aerosmith. 30 years they've been rockin'.

The only band I can think of that has lasted longer is the Stones. For the original members of Aerosmith to still be together is amazing. It's not often a band plays their Hall of Fame induction and opens with their brand new, sure to be a smash, single. (Although I'll take the worst track off Night in the Ruts over anything they've done lately.)

But I suppose the real miracle is that they, and the Stones, are even still alive!

The Sons of the Pioneers is the longest touring band. No original members, they're all dead. Don't ask me how I know, I just know.

Hey ACfixer you mentioned Doyle Bramhall hmm. Is that the guy that wrote songs with your man SRV or is it his son Doyle jr. the guitar player that you dig. Or is that just a name you read in a magazine recently. The reason I can still listen to Roy Buchannon is that I still have a record player.

and besides, every 1 knows Watermellon Willy never put out any recordings of his own--he always played with other artists such as Boxcar Bernard-Swingin' gate Galloway-Fishmouth Frank & 'lil Cleon, just to name a few. we tend to take da blues seriously here in memphis.
