In answer to your first question, yes

In response to your second...
What's your location and what are you looking for? I have a few connections and might be able to help.

Jay, I am in So Cal. I have since joined a worship band since posting this. We are now just in the practice stages so any info you have that might be helpful would be a blessing. It is a 4 piece band thusfar, I play guitar and sing a bit, another guy does the same, we have a girl with a great voice who carries the bulk of the vocals and plays bass, and a drummer.

Sounds like a good start. Where are you planning on playing and how are things progressing?

I play in a band consisting of a guitar (me), bass (my oldest daughter), piano (my oldest son), drums (the non-family member) and two vocalist (my wife and I).

Let me know how I can help.

Wow, I am envious of you all.

Or as the locals here would say, "y'all".

Really am...

Thanks guys! Keep us in prayer

Our practice Monday was the best ever, we ironed out some kinks in a couple songs and we started playing one that the Gina (bass player & singer) and I wrote. She did the lyrics and I wrote the music and it actually sounds like a song and not a stupid little dittie like most everything else I come up with LOL. If I can roll a tape I'll gladly post something we play. We play mostly all original stuff and a couple covers.

What covers are you doing? Are you more a performance oriented band (which is perfectly ok) than a Praise and Worship band? I kind of get that from your latest post.

Some pretty standard covers Jay, of P&W songs. "Lord I Lift Your Name on High" kinda stuff. Performance band... well I guess in the sense that our goal is to play Saturday night services and coffee houses yes. Our lyrics are about 1/2 from scripture and the other half just those the Lord has put on Gina's heart. We definately try to gear the songs to rock with a foot stomping beat and tempo. Even with our slower stuff it would be hard to keep your toe from tapping

Sounds good. I don't believe I have heard anyone refer to doing Praise and Worship stuff as doing covers - probably because most of the Praise and Worship material is done so many different ways. Let me know how things progress.

Yeah it seemed funny to write that actually! Even "covers" we do on occasion from well know Christian bands we just do in our own style. I have never been much of a "cover" guy anyway because I don't have the patience to try and copy somebody note for note etc... I just try to make it sound good

I'm leading worship for a startup church in the southbay of Los Angeles. We're currently meeting on Tuesday nights a 7:00 p.m. at a community center. If anyone is interested in playing bass or percussions, I'd be glad to have you join me. We'll be moving to a Sunday format before the end of the year. Hit me up if you might be interested!!! Thanks!
