I was curious, what's everyone's favorite all time jazz album?

| I just gotta go with that "Ken Burns Jazz" compilation they always have for sale on TV. Some of those songs are so cool. |

matdvd: Ha! You got me with that one. I nearly ran screaming. Fortunately I read the rest of the thread and that renewed my faith.
I love jazz (listening and playing) but don't have many of the classic albums and I 'm not sure what my favorite would be. But the late great Joe Pass would definitely be on the list. |

| Exactly owwda, that's why I only like the old stuff like from the 40's. To me, modern jazz sounds like an orchestra tuning up. |

I may not know good jazz, but I know what I like.
It's not for everybody.
It's at least worth a listen.

| Not all jazz is a busy as the Acid Jazz you guys are describing. A little of that can go a long way for me, too. I cut my jazz teeth on Stanley Jordan. He can get very busy at times. For some laid back melodic stuff, check out some Larry Carlton or Eric Johnson's Camel's Night Out or East Wes. Great stuff. |

Acid jazz... yeah that's the stuff.
I had a guitar teacher for a while that was a superb R&B jazz kinda guy. Good teacher but he kept wanting to steer me toward his musical tastes. Almost like lounge music with all these 9th and Dim chord progressions. It was sort of cool learning how to make those sounds but I know what happens to people who play that stuff. When you jam with 'em they keep falling back into that lounge sound. It's pathetic!
Shooobie doo doo doobie waaaahhhhh, yeah... G'nite and don't forget to tip your waitress. |
