| Some verses from the KJ are so classic, I remember them in the old English from when I was a kid. The text is a rough road though when it comes to smooth reading! (IMO) |

I have a KJ, NKJ, but I don't read them often anymore. I have a New American Standard Thompson Chain Reference also. I spend a lot of time in the NIV, and for the last 2 years I have made the New Living Translation my daily reading Bible.
When I first got saved, all I had in the house was my old King James that my Grandma had given me as a child. I tried reading it, and couldn't make heads or tails out of it, so I started shopping for another translation and someone pointed me to the NIV.
Occasionally, I will read some of the Message. I have found it to be incredibly refreshing at times. It's like discovering the whole book all over again. I have read through all of them a few times.
I agree with Retro about the accuracy of the NIV. A lot of time and effort was spent going back to the original texts to keep it as authentic as possible.
And right on, AC, they are all the Word of God. He shines right through! |

I know I'm late to chime in on this, but I just found the thread. I read the KJ and use it from the pulpit more than not. But if you work with kids/teens or even new converts, the New Living Translation is hard to beat. My teens have no trouble understanding the language, we use it in out mid week Bible Study. It's the Bible we chose to give away to our local Graduating Seniors. One of our local Bible book stores now carry a "gift and award" copy for about $10. It is well worth the read.
God bless, |
