I can see where it is confusing, but IMHO I think it seems pretty clear that when Judas gave the silver back to the chief priests and elders, they themselves actually did the purchasing, but when Peter was talking to the disciples, he was saying that the field was purchased with the money that Judas made for his iniquity, thereby, even though the vessels that physically bought it wasn't Judas, he was the owner.

Excellent question. Love those that make ya dig a little...

Hope it helps. And if its wrong, just ignore me...just human.

Brother T! Welcome to the forum and God bless you. If you get a chance please tell us a bit about yourself and what style/brand of guitar you play!

What I have heard in the past is that the only way a persons guts would spill out from a fall is if they had bee dead for quite a while (and was decomposing) or if the fall was exceedingly far. Perhaps Judas hung himself and when discovered and cut down, or if the rope broke and he splattered when he hit? I don't know, it still confuses me a bit too I will admit.

As far as the purchase of the field of blood, I think as Matt does that Judas gave up the money with which the field was bought by those he was numbered among.

I understand that judas is the owner but in act, my bible says that "judas bought a fiedl."...so how could you interpret it anyother way?

I have like so many other questions about the bible. If you guys want I can keep posting them....

About myself...
Well I am 17 and from canada...I've read the bible 3 times and still don't completely get it. My youth pastor says that if you keep reading it, you'll begin to see the picture more clearly. However some passages just doesn't get any easier to understand. I play guitar for 4 years now. Drop it after a year and a half. God called me back to the instrument, and I am planning to use it to worship him in the future. Right now at church we are trying to put together a youth worship band. I am going to play bass, because we don't have a bass player...kinda strange...I asked god to bring us a bass player...and he gives me like a burning desire to play bass...Just got myself one 3 weeks ago...A beautfiul G&L...
My favourite guitar player is
Brian Dorkeson
Mat Redman
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Joe Satriani
BB king
Eric Clapton
and who knows what will happen in the future...

If my old grandfather dies and wills me money to go to college, he bought(purchased) my education, not me.

If it is tough to understand, sometimes it's helpful to find out what the original text (greek in this instance) says. It is a fairly simple text and just think that you might be getting hung up on one english word. That is how lots of folks get into the snare of thinking the bible contradicts itself, when it is just different viewpoints and wording. If God created all this, He should be able to put together a book that doesn't contradict itself.

Hope it helps some!

Your youth pastor is absolutely correct. You will read a passage 100 times, and on the 101st, you will get something new out of it. It's amazing! That's why they call it a living book! Sometimes it just talks to us individually.

God Bless my friend, and study along with us in the book of John, up in the Christian Guitar Lounge thread!!

Another problem we have is that our thought process (the way we look at things) is different than the culture that the Bible was written to. To understand the fully understand all that's in the Bible, we have to try to approach from the cultural perspective of the original readers.

There are somethings, though, that we may never understand, but that's ok. We don't have to understand everything. The are some questions that the Bible doesn't answer. For example, the origin of evil. The scholars debate it, but it is a question that has been left unanswered. We have a few details, but an incomplete picture. But we don't have to know. The important thing is that the central doctrines of the Bible are quite clear. God gives us all the information that we truly need.

The origin of evil is quite easy in my mind, however, especially coming from Ohio.

It came from Michigan, naturally.
