| FINALLY I figured out this pinched harmonic thing! I could do them before but not consistent, I finally figured out the attack angle to nail them like they were nuthin'. Now I'm making a terrible rackett doing it on every fret for no good reason at all just because I can. It's like a 200lb weight has been taken from my neck. Feels SO good just to know I CAN if I want to. I'm doing these double-stop-pinch-bend atrocious sounding things, doing it with barre chords, whammy bar squeeeeeeling crash and burns.... Ahhhhhhhh feels soooooooooo sweet! Just like somebody at FenderTalk told me (Robby maybe), I figuree it out when I wasn't even trying... pathetic! Now I can practice something useful hehehe |

Is a pinch harmonic when you try to conceal a bunch of gas, but it only really raises the pitch and sounds a whole lot funnier?

Matt, how can you have GAS already when your MIMstrat hasn't even arrived? |

Pinch harmonics make a very similar squeal to the gas concealment technique Matt, and now I have learned the art of both. The former will sometimes happen accidentaly when you are playing a riff, the latter will sometimes happen when you are trying to pinch a loaf. The trick of course lies in learning to control each until the proper time |

LoL!
The best part about being a guy is that women will NEVER know how funny fart statements and jokes are to us. Ya just don't hear too many women saying, "pinch a loaf..." |

| Farts & boogers are always funny, but I gotta tell you that fat guy eating earwax and dead skin from his nose is about as repulsive as anything I have ever heard of. I still can't stop laughing about it. |

As far as I know, Zakk Wylde is a straight ahead Les Paul kinda guy.
And Hey AC, the really great tone comes from using both pinch techniques simultaneously, and getting them to come out in harmony! |

| The easiest way is to use a thick, fairly stiff pick and choke up on it until only the point is protruding form your grip on it. Then when you attack the string be sure that the skin from your finger or thumbs strikes it as well as the pick. It will (should) produce a false harmonic that can really add a new flavor to your style. This technique seems to work best with a little overdrive and reverb, of course. Analyze Billy Gibbon's early work for lots of this kind of noise! Good luck! |

Exactly Stan. It works great with a little whammy bar, bends, and vibrato too once you learn it.
I also find that an angled pick attack (down and away...) helps alot. Try it over or near each of the pickups. It will seem like the most impossible thing in the world to do until you do it. Then you'll wonder what the big deal was
