I don't have a clue how to help Mark, sorry.

I do know, however, that if you are weak with impulse buying, don't take a checkbook or plastic with you.

I think being poor lately has saved me countless times. Some of those electric and acoustic beauties can really talk to you. And for only a couple hundred bucks at times, seems such a small amount....hehehe.

Hopefully, one of the other fellas will step in and answer your question. I'm the "youngster" around here.

Good Luck. Keep us informed, will ya?

Hi guys, /not been here for a while hope you area all doing ok? right to the business. Remember I was looking for a Sante Fe - Takamine well I'm now torn between that and a Taylor poss. the 514ce. Now the Talor is slighlty more expenisve so a little more saving will do but I'm not too sure if it is entirely worth it. As a worship leader the guitar will get around a lot and I'm not too sure on how robust etc taylor are compared to the takamine... Ahhh I'm going to a music stor tomorrow to see what a Talor feels and sounds like? Any advice 'n' stuff especially about various experiences of these guitars would be great! Cheers MARK

So which one did you go with? In my opinion...Taylor hands down is the better of the two.

I can say this because I have both. A black EF341c Takamine and a Taylor 314-kce. I think the Taylor is a MUCH better guitar, but like you said, more expensive. The Takamine is absolutely the toughest stage guitar I've ever owned and with the newer Takamine electronics, they are excellent guitars. The Taylor, because it is Solid woods, requires a little more TLC, but really does sound better. Both play great. I guess there are tradeoffs both ways, but I wouldn't be afraid of a good Takamine. Look for the "Made in Japan" mark on the back of the headstock though. They are much better than the korean Taks like the "G-series".

Well I bought my Taylor 312ce new from washington guitars and I can definately say they are a much better sounding guitar than a takamanie. My friend in church (our bass player) has a takamanie and was playing hers the other day, then she put it down and picked up my taylor. She was trying to do some harmonics on the higher frets, but the takamanie, just didn't sound right. Then she tried the same harmonics on my taylor. Every note sounded clear! The point I am trying to make is that a takamanie is a good guitar, but because most taylors are US built they have a little better sound quality than the takamanies, though the takamanies have better durability, but I play my taylor in church and it seems to be doing a great job. The choice is yours, but I guess I am kinda partial to Taylors. I still believe they are the best sounding guitar between the two though.

Hey M J,
I am a worship leader in my church.
I do some traveling around with my Taylor 610 ce. I have never had a problem with it. the only thing I could suggest is that you get some sort of dampit.
to keep your humidity up in your case and the guitar finish doesn't crack.
I live in upstate NY and it can get dry up here with all the cold weather conditions.
I do have a friend that has a couple of nice Tak's in his posession he enjoys them for their ease of set up.( he plays out almost every weekend)
My only advice is which guitar feels better in your hand.Don't worry about the price.
If I could spend $2300 on a guitar and it felt right when I'm playing it I would get it as I could afford it.
Taylor also has alot of Lit on how to best keep and maintain thier guitars so durability doesn't become an issue.
what ever choice you make it will be a good one don't worry about second guessing yourself. from where I see it your are on the right track.
Keep getting info and let the Holy Spirit guide you. I'll be praying for you.
Be blessed with God's best. Five stringz.

Good advice Johnny. I have owned a Taylor 310 that was very nice and I certainly have nothing bad to say about it. On the other hand, I don't have it any more because I sold it when i found a Tacoma that was just easier to play and sounded better. Now the Santa Fe is a nice sounding guitar, but I would have to say it's not even in the same league with a Taylor 514ce. I am mostly partial to Taylors due to the regret I still have for not buying a 514ce I played one day in Guitar Center that just blew me away. It seems they are a bit hit-and-miss just like any other acoustic as I have played other Taylors that didn't sound as good but when I do I'll buy it (the good Lord willing of course ).

I can say this for sure. I've never bought a car or a boat I wish had a smaller motor, a cordless drill that had less volts, or a guitar with less quality. If the Taylor feels and sounds good to you, you will NEVER regret buying it over the Tak but if you buy the Tak it's likely you will wish you had bough the Taylor. Like the other brothers said, be a good steward with your money and then let the Spirit guide you.

Chech out Garrison guitars, Ive heard only good things about them. and due to the inner cage they have been reported to be very road worthy...

If you can find one to try, its probably worth it. Good prices too.

Nate, if you get your hands on the right Taylor, it's worth 5 times what they cost. Not every one that I have played were equal, but the ones that stood out (I mentioned a 514 I should have bought...) are simply the finest guitars I have ever played or heard at any price.

I played 2 Tak Santa Fe guitars and while the guitars were both well built and had a real nice pickup system, they sounded "tight" or kinda like they were wrapped in a sock even when compared to some comparably priced Taylors (510; priced only slightly higher) and Martins (D15R Special; I think it was actually cheaper).

However that D15R sounded better with a lovely balance and harmonics than a couple of D128Hs and D35 I played. I played 4 Taylor 510s that sounded as good as the D15R but with more power. My Dan Crary Signature edged out all of the 510s for balance and I got it mint used for the same cost as a new 510. A Martin M38C blew away every guitar I played for openness, balance, and harmonics content but was just way out of my price range and it was very early in my 8 month search to have been considered saving for.

But the thing is I learned what great guitars sounded like and which sound I liked best. And now I go into GC and pick up high end Taylors, etc and find my DCSM has opened up so well in the 7 years I've owned it that nothing in a store can compare Very Happy .

Oke, got you there. Taylors are way overpriced here. A 510 would cost me 2702,-- euro without tax. That means a bit inder $3000,-- no tax yet..... The 510 CE will cost you 3392,- (no tax).

Am i whining over nothing or are we overpricing then here in Holand?

You are about $1000 more than we pay. I think a Euro is close to a dollar right? I think a 514CE is about $1800-2200.

Our worship leader at church plays a Takamine (no idea what type) and he loves it. He paid about AUD$1100 and it is a beauty of a guitar. I don't know anything about Taylor though.
