So, I can buy a USA standard strat brand new for $750. You are telling me you could buy one for about 650 Euros then? It looks like I could buy the Taylor for about 1/2 of what you can....

Who rules? Wink

I play a Takamine EGS45SC. I played several guitars around the 800.00 range before buying it and I was impressed by the sound of the Tak. It has solid spuce top, rosewood sides and neck. I play with Elixer custom lite strings. I find guitars to be a very personal thing though. Everyone has a little different opinion.

hello all i'm the new , new guy. been playin for 25+ years

seriously the best deal on a guitar i personally have ever had~ Takamine EG523SC

http://www.music123.com/Takamine-EG523SC-i101989.music

i bought mine from greg allmans cousin annie in savannah Georgia.

http://www.anniesguitars.com/

i guess i was slow to find this wonderful guitar (it won numerous awards in 2003) and it was on deeeep backorder everywhere. i got lucky finding Annies shop on the web. they are great people and really took good care of me.

anyway this jewel plays every bit as well as guitars costing 4 or 5 hundred dollars more. do yourself a favour and try one out at your local shop (if they can keep them in stock)

Welcome to the board. Good to meet you. That Takamine sounds sweet! My worship leader at church uses Takamine actually and always gets a good sound from them.

ive always had a thing for japanese guitars since i got my 1984 ibanez roadstarII strat. japan is generally cheaper than USA guitars of the same quality and you dont have the slave labour you get in china, korea and mexico. ive heard good things about takamine, esp. their preamps and elecronics.

I just bought a LTD edition 2006 Takamine. It sounded better in the music store than the Taylor 314ce. I notice right before I get the guitar that it is fuzzy on the top E string when I play a G note. The music store guy makes a truss-rod(?) adjustment and says its fixed. Its still buzzin'. I say it isn't fixed. He says give it a day and the adjustment should fix it.

Ok....

It's been about 15 hours since I bought the guitar. It seems as though it is fuzzin' worse. I love the sound of this guitar! It is Rosewood for the back and sides. Sitka on top (?). But I just can not do the fuzz. The Guitar Shop guy said to call him and he could help he fix it over the phone, but the more I play this guitar the less I like it. The neck seems to be too big. And for $1700 I shouldn't have to do anything to a guitar to get it to play right. I was looking at two taylors, a 414ce and 314ce. The 414 sounded more like the Takamine that I have now. Bought the takamine from Guitar Center, so I can bring it back and get a full refund within 30 days of purchase.

I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the Taylor. There was a dreadnought Tak that I really liked, but now I am starting to question the quality of Takamine guitars. The taylor hardly buzzed in drop D.

$1700 For a LTD 2006 Takamine or $1700 for a 414ce

What do you guys think would be the wisest investment?

Tak's are good guitars for sure. But a Taylor is pretty good to. Every Taylor I have played with Rosewood back and sides really sounded great. You do what you like, but no way am I going to drop alomost 2 grand on a guitar and not be 100% happy. I don't know who you talked to at GC, but this time I would ask for his boss.

Good luck,

And welcome to the board!

Ok...

I returned the Tak and got a Taylor 314ce.
I got the 314ce because it fitted my style of playing (I play alot of Bluegrass, Flatpicking, and Fingerstyle.) for the price. Saved my dad about $200.....he was really happy. BTW this guitar is my Christmas present.

Got a pretty good deal on the guitar - $1530 [thats tax, and all...the guy even through in a humidifier ($12)]

I am sooo glad I took the Tak back. It was kinda a weird model anyway. This info on it is copied from the site.

"This year our Limited Edition guitar derives it’s theme from the spiritual realm with a Tibetan Tantric inspired design. The rosette presents the elements of life with a representation of air, fire, earth and water artfully inlayed as only Takamine can do using Koa, Cocobolo, Abalone and lapis stone. The 12th fret inlay is the knot of life that binds all things together in unity inlayed with Koa and Cocobolo. "

I don't dig it....

I just didn't feel peace about trading it in for another Tak. I finally felt peace when I got the Taylor.

I'll try to post a youtube video of myself playing it sometime soon.

Sounds like the Tak had bad karma to me. Very Happy

I think you will be happy with the Taylor. But your Bluegrass friends might think bad of you for not going Martin, you know how those bluegrass guys can be. Wink

And Merry Christmas!

Yeah I know. I don't really understand what is so great about a Martin guitar in the Bluegrass world. I mean that 314ce is a banjo killer. It is loud and clear. I can hardly hear a Martin when they "take a lead".

Merry Christmas to you too!

My brother actually plays mandolin. Watch him here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztAWIg-XBE0

He was playing his Kentucky in this video. I was playing my trusty old Fender Dreadnought.
He got a Eastman Mandolin for Christmas and he loves it.

It reminds me of the song Eric Clapton plays.
