I want to learn how to play guitar. I've been searching the webs and I have been to Guitar Center as well. I'm think about buying the Ibanez V70CE or the Takamine G320 just because people say good thing about it but I really don't know. I want to buy a guitar under $200. Any comments on those two or other suggestions?

First welcome to the forum. Getting an acoustic with a solid top (that will get better with age and have a much richer tone) is difficult to find new for under $200, especially with any electronics. The old Music123 catalog I happened to have a Takamine GS330 with a solid cedar top, so the G320 may have a solid spruce. I did see a Washburn D10S for $209 but it had a solid spruce top and included a hardshell case (usually around $100).

If I had only $200 to spend, I would probably buy a used guitar in a pawn shop. I live near a city with an AirForce base, so guitars come and go often. I have helped many people find used for under $100 that were originally over $300 and some came with hard cases. But that's just me. I would look at that Wasahburn if I were you for new, because of the solid top and the case. I am not sure about the Takamine and the Ibanez, for sure, has a deadened pywood top and probably a cardboard case. I hope this helps.
Blessed, and in His grip, Dan Brown

I think for a first guitar either of these is a good choice, personally I prefer the Takimine, I have owned a Takaimine Jasmine for years and it has proved to be a great guitar for the money. I would suggest if possible to try them both side by side then pick the one that is most comfortable for you. And I also would suggest that you use light guage strings starting out.
Good Luck and remember when first learning the guitar------Patience.

Greetings from the other side of the globe! Welcome, don't hesitate to keep posting with us in this forum Very Happy

before Jesus changed my life, i played a cheap plywood yamaha guitar with nylons. I'm kinda grateful having learned the basic with nylons, it was kinda soft on new fingers. but plywood guitars, the tones just didn't really come out

now i own a Cort-Earth,it's dreadnought, acoustic-electric but i never use the plug-in till now, solid top, it's spruce. I think my tip is critical, that is to choose carefully the shape of the body . Is it a slightly big dreadnought or the jumbo , or the more SFX slim model ?

there's no single best type, it's all about your taste for music. If you're looking for something with crystal clear tones, you might want to try the SFX model. the bigger the guitar, the "deeper" and louder it sounds.

When i bought my cort, there weren't any good SFX models, so i was down to the regular type, dreadnought or jumbo. I chose the dreadnought, I love it untill now. Last time i went to the shop, they just got some new takamine models on display, one of them was a SFX model, i tried it out and Man...the feel was totally different, very very clear voicing, just perfect! Best for people who are just playing for themselves or in small group, or maybe even for recording.

that takamine and my cort worth quite the same, around Rp. 2.000.000 or $ 220 if you convert it. (Guitars here are a lot cheaper, Halleluyah!) both are acoustic-electric, solid top, cases are sold separately.

But guitars don't make you sing better, don't buy very expensive guitar if you're just starting out, mastering the chords is Priority No.1 . As you learn more and more, your hearing will become better and finally you know your style of playing so you can choose the right guitar to be your soulmate. Very Happy

That's from me. Keep posting ok, there are great and very experienced people here

Thank you for all the advices that you guys gave me. After reading all this, I decided to buy a Jasmine. Its not a solid top because its only $99 but what I'm thinking is I need to learn how to play first and find out what I want to hear from the guitar then i'll buy a better guitar in the range of 400-500. Now I cant wait to get the Jasmine Very Happy.

I am so glad we were able to help, Buido. Your Jasmine and your fingers and heart will be in my prayers. Playing the guitar can be wonderful therapy and using one for the Lord, especially can be most rewarding. Myself, I don't believe 'Luck" exists. What so many people call "good luck" is really God choosing to bless them and "bad luck" is God allowing Satan to test their faith with some lie or a counterfiet of something Holy. Remember the Word says that nothing occurs that God doesn't expect and orchestrate, and that all that happens will eventually work out together for good, somehow.

Remember to have patience when you begin to learn. Go slowly and build your calluses, strength and knowledge a bit at a time. We're here for you if you need to ask something. None of this happens overnignt and it's easy to get frustrated and Music was correct in the fact that prayer is very important. If guitar is part of God's plan for you, it will happen, and He will help. Don't try to learn too fast. You'll do fine, and who knows? Someday we may hear of you.
Blessed, by the precious gift of assistance, Dan

Good luck with the Jasmine, IMHO it is a great beginers guitar, as I said I have had mine for years now and still play it often, actually it is the only 6 string I have. I have played it in church a couple of times with a mic through the pa and was very pleased with the sound. Now I am trying to get used to my Fender 12 string.
