So, the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of our group that plays for a local radio station on occasion just got a new Taylor T5. I'm incredibly jelous of him right now, the thing plays like a dream. Its amazing. Anyways, he has been trying to decide whether to get a Crate CA6110DG (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-CA6110DG-Gunnison-Acoustic-Guitar-Amplifier-?sku=487791) or the new Vox tonelab LE (http://www.voxamps.co.uk/tonelab/tonelab_le.asp). So far, we've only done one gig where an amp would have been nice. All the other times we've had either a decent sound system or a good sound tech, or both on some occasions.

We were talking and thought it might be best to go for the pedal. He can get the acoustic sound he wants from the guitar, as well as the electric sound the guitar also puts out. I own a Tonelab SE for my electric, and it's by far the best pedal I've ever hooked up to. So, my question is which one would you all go for? I mean there's pros and cons to both, and it may be a toss up, but I figured it would be nice to get others opinion and see what you all have to say about it. So, any feedback would be awesome. God bless.

Well, if you are looking for something to use at gigs where you might not have the PA, then you have to go with the amp. The pedal doesn't have any speakers. To amplify the pedal, you will need a PA.

Both should be good for recording. The pedal probably slightly better in that regard. Less to carry and more options.

Personally, I'd be more inclined to go the amplifier, if it sounds good to your bandmate. It sounds like it would do what you would need it to and gives you amplification without a PA if needed. And I don't like playing with sonic options (the pedal) very much. I just want a good acoustic sound that supports the rest of the band well. I would expect the amp to do that. But that should be your main criteria.
