I'm afraid I do not know anything about a lap steel. Embarassed
But with any luck someone on the board can point you in the right direction.

I just wanted to say welcome to the Forum!

I too can barely play my way out of a paper bag Bryon, so I'm not much help with a steel guitar except to say when played right I sure think they sound cool.

Stick around and let us know how it goes!

Welcome Byron-liked your joke enough to steal it. I too know only a little, but what about used lap steel's from the 40's through the 60's? Most guitar shows have a couple. Check on the bay and do a little online research-maybe check reviews. The nice thing about buying a used name instrument like Gibson, Fender, Supro etc. is that it will likely hold it's value or even appreciate. I remember a concert when Sammy Hagar encored with "Bad Motor Scooter" on a small lap steel sitting on the edge of the stage. He made engine revving sounds and slid into the song-it was a moment. FYI check out Robert Randolph, Ben Harper and David Lindley (with Jackson Brown)for a little inspiration on this particular instrument.
