First, I am no bass player. I'm sure someone else around here will help you more than I am about to.
A friend of mine bought a cheap "Galveston" acoustic bass. It played pretty good and had a lot of volume. He picked it up at a local pawn shop for less than $150. He kept it about a year and had no trouble with it. They are just a China made instrument, I'm sure they put several different names on the same bass. It even had a pickup in it! I don't know that I ever heard him using the pickup.
Good luck,
And again; welcome to the board! |

| Your best bet would be to actually go to your local store and see what you can get. Maybe write down the names of some products in your price range, and we can advise you from there. There really is no point telling you that this bass is good if you can't get it. |

| Is it for unplugged only or does it have to be able te be plugged in an amp? My bass player has a Vantage and an Ibanez and they are reletavly cheap but lack huge volumes acousticly. You can hear them bu I find they are rather soft. Plug them in an its a whole other ball game! I don't have the models by hand, sorry! |

| Check out the Fender Mexican Jazz basses, they're really tight and they should be right up your alley in terms of budget. |
