Yeah Mark, intonation fine tuning is included with a bone bridge saddle. The guy I use here is really great. I dropped the Guild (a seizure, heavy sigh!) and cracked the rosewood bridge and cracked the original (Kevin Gallagher) bone saddle and Mark Lavelle glued the wood and made a new saddle and it was in pefect tune even down to a 10th fret D with an open A and D string. (X-0-0-11-10-10) And if it were not for some dark grain marks on the original bridge, I would have thought it was new wood rather than a glue job.
I understand the concept of the in-line strings, straight to the tuner thing, but my Norman stays in tune great with proper knot on the keys and not too old of strings.
Blessed, but tired, Dan |

well here in Indonesia, cort is quite popular,a medium-range guitar with solid top/back and good lumber job overall.
here it cost around $.218/Rp.2.000.000 (Rp=Rupiah;Rp.1=$9200)
not for beginners though, they usually start off with a simple Plywood Yamaha(Local i think) for only $.44-45( )
But in Indonesia, since we're only minority,so the phrase you gave me "To worship God is the only reason to play guitar" is an extremely rare merchandise here....
people must never take christianity for granted, here not many people can accept that there's a modern worship in God...they still go with the choir, folk&slow songs.very rarely you see an acoustic guitar played in a service....so a modern christian guitarist is kinda hard to find.I wanna share with all you guys about this..... |

| The Cort models I've seen are a bit cheaper than my Cole Clark. But they are very nice. One of the people my old guitar teacher taught has one and stands by it. And the one I've played seemed nice. |

well, i dont know all of the fancy words to explain my guitar to you but i know its a washburn. its a dreadnaught. its a six string acoustic electric. it looks pretty. It sounds pretty when i play pretty things. Its sounds not so pretty when I play not so pretty things. So I guess you could say its an honest guitar.
I got it in spring of '04. so i'd say its about 4 years old.
I like to use elixer strings.
it has very low action which i like a lot.
thats all i've got to say about that. |

Newbie here,
I have a Takimine Jasmine and a Fender 12 string DG-16E.
I have played the Jasmine in church a couple of times, and I just this month got the fender, still working on a couple of songs for the 12 string. |

thanks for the welcome,
actually I do play few barre chords on my 12 string, a couple that come to mind are the Bm chord in My Jesus, by Todd Agnew and the F#m along with the B in Chris Tomlin's Amazing Grace, My Chains are gone. I am really still just learning. My wife and I just wrote our very first song (finished it last night) now If I can gain enough confidence I will get another guitar player from our church to go through it with me and possibly play it during Worship service soon.
Pray for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or should I say pray for the congergation. LOL |

A 12 string has pairs of strings, very close together. The three lower pitched strings are in octave pairs, while the higher pitched pairs are in unison. With the exception of the Rickenbacker electric 12 string, heard on many Beatles and most Byrds recordings, the higher pitched string is first in the pairs.
Standard tuning would be eE aA dD gg bb ee. It's common to tune the entire guitar a half step or even a whole step lower, and either transpose the song or use a capo.
It's difficult, though not impossible, to play leads on a 12 string. However, they really shine when used as a strummed rhythm instrument. They have a full, rich "jangly" sound. Listen to the sound Melissa Etheridge gets on her Ovation acoustic-electric 12 string.
This is a good reference source for basic info on 12 string guitars:

I own an old Conrad electric 12 string, but it needs serious repair work before I can use it. I got it from someone who picked it up at a thrift store. Some fool had removed half of the tuning machines and plugged the holes to turn it into a six string! I'm in the process of converting it back, but I still have a way to go. The neck is still warped, and the nut is wrong. It's waiting until I have some spare money to invest with the local luthier. |

Mr. George is setting you straight, Music. I have only seen or played an electric 12 string ('cept acoustics in a pawn shop) however and either of the ones I have seen have octave strrings (a wound and an unwound string tuned in octaves) even on the 3rd set (G), at least here in Loisiana. A mandolin like the Alvarez I own has only 4 sets of strings, tuned backwards from the lower 4 strings of guitar (G-D-A-E) like a violin. The G and D sets are tuned in octaves (the higher, smaller string on top) with two different sized strings and the A and E sets are tuned in unison with the same-sized strings.
Any type of dual-stringed fretted instruments are hard on your fingers and calluses. For both the dual tracks through your calluses and pushing down 2 strings with one finger takes more energy than one. I have played inexpensive acoustic 12s like Venturas from China that are near impossible to play, but have played electric 12 strings that play like a fine 6 string and I don't recall having played an expensive acoustic 12. My top-of-the-line Alvarez Mandolin (custom maple round-hole) however has a very low action and plays like a fine electric guitar.
Blessed, but could really stand to still own every guitar or instrument I have ever owned, Dan |

Thanks again everyone for the welcome,
as for the tuning of the 12 string, on mine the High e and the b strings are axactly the same with the remaining strings being tuned an octave apart. I use a tuner to get the larger "wound strings" tuned into standard tuning then tune each corresponding string one octave higher to harmonize with the wound ones.
As for our song, here are the lyrics
please remember this is our first attempt and it is very basic and simple.
LOVE SO STRONG
Intro: G C G C G D (2x)
G C
Jesus walked on the water
G D
He made the blind to see
G C
His love is that strong
G D
He even calmed the raging sea
(chorus)
G C
His love is that strong
G D
It's on him that I lean
G C
His love is that strong
Am G
It's on him-------him--that I lean
G C
Jesus loved his enemies
G D
He made the lepers clean
G C
His love is that strong
G D
By his blood we are redeemed
(chorus)
G C
Jesus bled and died on the tree
G D
He bore our sins on Calvary
G C
His love is that strong
G D
He will return for you and me
Chorus
GCGCGD (repeat and fade out)
At first I was playing it kinda fast, but I slowed it down alot and finger picked it and my wife liked it much better slow with the finger picking.
OK I tried to put the chords in the correct spots over the words but when I previewed the MSG it left out the spaces and put the chords together.
Anyway as I said it is pretty simple, the chords are G C on the first line and G D on the second and repeating on each line until the Line It's on Him-----him--that I lean, here I play an Am on the first "him" then G on lean.
I hope I haven't confused everyone. |

I love it, Bob! Of course, I can't hear your melody, but the rhythm of the syllables of words seems to flow well, and the simple Biblical truths of the lyrics reach down deep in my heart. Thanks, for sharing, and for sticking around with us a while. I am going to be sharing some of my stuff the next few days (I consider it all "Public Domain") Some are Biblical lyrics I have never set to music, and any of you are most welcome to try. Again welcome, Vulcanbob!
Blessed, and in His grip, Dan |

Truth can never be unliked, Bob. Here's one of my songs I have never been satisfied with music to go with, although I have attempted it. Use it or lose it
“Keep Us Focused on the Cross”
(J. Dan Brown 11/09/02 [¾ time?])
(inspired by a sermon from Romans 5 by Lewis Attaway)
A) Our Father God of grace and peace, Who stills reigns on High,
allowing sin to enter us... in the garden, through a man.
Then death reigned over all the Earth, until He gave the Law.
So that for sin, then man could sacrifice, until His gifts began.
B) For God would ever demonstrate His Love for all the Earth.
For yet while we were sinners, His Son would die for us.
For by His Blood we're justified, saved from a wrath of sin.
He, for the fallen of Humanity, was required to bear the Cross.
Chorus)
Teach us daily, Father God on High how to glory in our trials.
And teach us perseverance as we travel down life's miles.
Please give us hope and character, and keep Your Love poured out on us.
And remind us of His precious Blood, and keep us focused on the Cross.
C) So that we, the justified by Faith, can have our peace with God.
Praise God who raised Him from the dead, yet required Him crucified.
He who planned before all time began, that we would nail Him to a Cross.
So, yet while we were sinners, when it was time, Christ came and died.
Chorus)
Oh, we are so very blessed, indeed, Dan |
