In my western Civ class we're discussing Islam.
So, Christianity is a reform of Judaism and Islam is a reform of Christianity.
According to Muhammed, Christians had messed up the message. At that time period, he was probaly right ( circa 610 AD ). But Christianity, with the help of Martin Luther, began to become what it was suppossed to be. In the last 200 years, denominations like Baptists and Methodists cut out alot of the politics.
Also, Muslims are not suppossed to attack people 'of the Book" (Jews and Christians). When Muhammed removed the idols from the Ka'bah, it's interesting that the only 2 he left were the Blessed Virgin Mary and Jesus.
So where do Islams get off calling us 'infidels' worthy of death? |

I think it comes from the whole "I don't believe Muhammed" thing. |

| I think you will find that most followers of Islam consider Christian's to worship three God's; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They don't get that we think they are one and the same. |

| I just think it's strange that their is so much animosity between Muslims and Christians/Jews. More or less, we all worship the same God. You'd think we'd be able to get along, especially since Muhammed told Islams not to fight Jews and Christians. |

Jeff, I'm not at all ready to say we worship the same God.
When we read the first chapter of John, we see that Jesus is God, one and the same. To think any less is to not see our God at all, it's idol worship.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word; and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. |

Exactly. The origins of all three faiths start with the God (the Father) of Abraham but as Christians we believe Jesus Christ is one part of that same God. Such talk brings scorn from Jews and death threats from Muslims. Jesus Christ is God.
Allow me to add to Mark's referenced scriptures...
John 10:30 "I and My Father are one." |

That's what I meant by "We more or less worship the same God."
I personally think Islam is hogwash. Muhammed was a pirate who married a rich woman 20 years older than him. But he did say that Muslims were not to take up arms against Jews or Christians, man did something go wrong. |

| Haha....I think I'm more Zoroastrian at this point than a traditional Protestant. Definitely a dualist Christian at the very least. I dug around a bit, obviously I've had issues with certain aspects (evident in this particular forum), and it's funny that almost every Western religion evolved from 5 principle Indo-Aryan deities. What's scary is that I would have been burned at the stake for saying all that 600+ years ago. |
