| Herb...i think my bridge pickup on the ES135 is wired out of phase (by the factory?). It has no bass and sounds very tinny and twangy. I have it in the shop now-should be an easy fix. Be His-scott |

| If it sounds like that by itself, it's a problem in the pickup. The only time out of phase wiring works is when two pickups are used together out of phase. One p-up alone doesn't care which way the current flows. |

Ahh, maybe not an easy fix! Well, maybe i'll need a new pickup for the bridge. Question-could i use a P90 like a Seymour Duncan Antiquity in the bridge and keep the P100 in the neck position? |

| AAACCKKKK! If it's got P-100's, scrap both of them. That's the absolute worst p-up Gibson EVER built!!! |

Don't hold back now Herb. Tell us what you really think!
Actually, I agree!
Had one onna '93 LP Jr. Whadda Stinkeroo it was! Really awful. Took me a while to figure out that it didn't have a real P-90 with something dreadfully wrong with it in there. Loved the neck. Offed it after about one month. Now I have a recent Melody Maker with a P-90. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!
My ES-135 had humbuckers. I didn't like them either after the new glow wore off.
Go for P-90's. You can get them to humbuck with both on if you get one RWRP. Rio Grande, Seymour Duncan, Lollar, etc. |

Yeah, i was afraid of that. The guy at the store recommends Seymour Duncan Antiquities at $120 apiece. I'm gonna look around and get opinions on the net-it's what i do best! Meanwhile i've spent $250 on a new mint green pickguard prewired with Fender Custom 54's for my Strat...merry Christmas to me. Be His-scott |

I went crazy 6 months ago, on my 56th birthday, and splashed out on my first ever electric guitar and an amp before I got to old to play it. Been playing acoustic for years. Definitely a late mid-life crisis...
I got a modelling amp, a 50 watt Vox AD50VT, and, since I didn't have much money left over, a humble Squier Showmaster (Indonesian made). The amp is very good for what I need. The guitar is quite playable. The bridge humbucker pickup seems OK, but the two single coil pickups are not too hot. What to do? Any recommendations for cheap but good replacement pickups? Or get another guitar? I am intrigued by the Variax range.
The guitar is quite heavy compared to the acoustics I am used to. Aggravates back pain. Any suggestions for light(er)-weight electrics? |
