Hello, my name is Jeff, and I am monotone.
(Audience says "Hello Jeff.")
Can anyone give any tips on singing? They say it's something you have to train yourself to do, but I think singing-wise my gene-pool is pretty shallow...
I'm all ears. |

Can you match pitches you hear with your voice?
Singing along with the radio etc, how do you do? |

Not very well. I can sing medium to low, but high notes make my voice go out. If I project it's very monotone, but if it's softer singing I'm not too awful. |

Welp,
We each have a chest voice, a Head voice, and a falsetto voice, but breathing properly is a key.
I had some voice in College. Choir is a great place to learn all kinds of stuff.
Never cut notes off with your throat muscles.
We should try to be like an open ended pipe and use our diaphram (between the lungs and belly) to stop and start notes.
If we're straining to hit notes we're doing something wrong.
If we're reaching for a higher note we should open the pipe and use more air, but without pushing from below and grabbing with the throat.
I guess relaxing the throat is the whole deal, and letting the air and notes just flow out.
Any tiredness in the throat after singing indicates something is straining and not being done right.
That's about all I can remember.
I usually only sing as an opportunity to play guitar! |
