Another gig

I just found out we are playing this Saturday for an adult retreat. Thank you Lord. My bud Edd just came over and brought this new Tradition semihollow electric he wants me to play. He says it needs to be "sweated on". At first I had misgivings about playing a totally new guitar for a gig, but this guitar is great Exclamation

I guess I'll just bring the Tele for backup. Be God's-scott

Jeff...we play about 90% originals. We do a few covers, like Wes Kings "I Believe" and various praise and worship stuff. The thing about originals is that nobody knows when you mess up. Smile

Steve, I can't tell you how many times I have forgotton the words to my own songs...how embarrassing is that? I have to ask my peers in the band "whats the first word again?". Keeps me humble. scott

Well, just got back from the gig and I gotta tell ya-the gig is no place for trying out new guitars! I couldn't get a decent sound without really working and when i did the volume was wrong. At the start of the second set I went back to the telecaster and all was fine. Moral of the story-experment at practice, not at the show. Embarassed

Yeah, that is frustrating to not have an inspiring sound happening. Very distracting.
Oh well this is why the stage is the crucible and education is speeded up there!
One gig equals a couple semesters of "theory!"

Telecasters are just so simple, onstage (most Strats are too)!
I confuse easily, but good sound on one of "Leo's" (Fender) guitars is usually just a quick stab -at one knob or switch- away! Cool

You're right. On stage is no place to try out a new guitar. That's like strapping on a racecar you've never driven and going flat out. I've had my 40th Anniversary American Strat for almost 9 months, and just recently played it out, live.

On the topic of gigs... I'm so excited!!! "My" band (the one that we still haven't named) is in business! I really wanted the band to be what I lovingly call a "Curcuit Rider Band". I want to go around to random youth groups as they ask for us and lead worship! "How cool would that be?", I thought as the plan formed itself. "Too bad it can't happen any time soon...", was my follow-up thought at the time, merely a few months ago. But now, our drummer's grandmother's church's youth group (that was long!) has asked for us to come, one of the mother's who helps out at our junior high youth group goes to another church on sunday mornings and has expressed an interest for her church's youth group, and my friend who does the soundboard for us on Sunday night says that he could "easily get me in" at his friend's youth group!!!

I'm excited and I'll keep you updated...but for now, I have to go eat dinner.

Haha! Steve, my drummer's granmother asked how much we charge! And I was like, "Umm...nothing yet!" Wow! I'm afraid they may think that we're pro's or something! I just want the opportunity to encourage a wider variaty of youth to worship! With that in mind, the tourbus wil be my dad's van... Laughing

I always thought the word "granola" was underused in the music industry.....come to think of it, I can't think of a single use of it. Question

Just as an update:

My band is getting off to a realy good start! We are definitely going to be playing about an hour set at a youth group about 20 minutes from my house. We are meeting at least once a week and we're beginning to write songs as well, which is tons of fun. I love being able to play with a group of four guys like this! It's a lot of fun and it's really good "bonding time". We are thinking of actually calling the band "The Front Line", but a name will be decided for sure tonight at practice. I'll let you know how the gig goes ASAP.

P.S. - October 5 we will be playing a very short gig for the junior high youth group at my church. It'll be small, but it'll be fun!
