| After about 6 months the Solid Rock Band (of which I am a member) has got a gig. We are playing at a Family Christian Book store in Irving-which is a suburb between Dallas and Fort Worth. We have played here before. It's a good room with nice employees-very family frendly. And knowing I get to play live has inspired my practice times-been playing a lot lately. Wish me luck-scott |

Neat!
I greatly prefer Bookstores, Bistros, Cafes, CoffeeHouses, and even Bakeries (I've played 'em), to bars!
And you get home sober, at a decent hour too!

| Steve, I just wanted to tell you how it went. We brought about 50 people with us and drew another 50 or so. For my style of music small tube amps turned up loud seem to work well. I used my 64 Princeton with the 12" speaker on "7" and it was perfect-lots of sustain on leads. People were sitting in tables 12' in front of the mains and nobody complained about too much volume. Anyway, I thought we were doing well until I heard my friend Edd yelling during the obligatory encore. Since nobody knew who he was, he was pretending to be "Joe Bob" sombody, saying stuff like "y'all play "nuther one, ya hear?" Now Edd is a killer musician, sings like Sting and plays...well, he toured with Freddie King. So I let myself get nervous and blew the last song. It's hard to play in front of other musicians-especially better ones. Your head tends to get in the way of your heart. Be God's-scott |

Scott, that's cool! Hey, I can play things good 40 times in a row but if my good buddy shows up (he plays like your friend) I just go south big time. I could play in front of the entire country as long as the musicians weren't there! |

Yes, when there's respected musicians there I turn into a "pleaser of men, instead of God."
Why is that?
I think it's because I want to be known as a player's player.
Ego rears its ugly head too often and spoils many a memory maker.
With The Jordan River Band, after we leave a jail the leader has us pull over and give the glory to God. Otherwise we'd all drive home talking about the cool solo in the third song or something.
Isn't it remarkable how when you're in communion with the Lord all our stuff like that falls away?
I wish I could have more of those experiences Ferrari1 has: where he can actually worship while he's playing. Boy am I not there yet!
Always thinking about the sound, the lick, how this looks, etc etc etc.
Good on you though! Congratulations.
Small things done are better than great things planned.

| Thanks guys-Nice to know I'm not alone. Being in God's will constantly and consistantly-what a struggle and what a worthy one! Kinda like playing a good solo. As soon as you realize it's good WHAM! clambake! Then we get up and try again. (In my best Monty Python elderly women with glasses and a flower in her hat British voice) "Excuse me sirs...where do I drop off this self awareness? It just seems to get in the way lately. And please, take some of this pride too...I seem to have way too much for one...(as she walks away)... Turn me eyes upon Jesus...look full 'in his wonderful face..." Be God's-scott |
